Goal A: Language in Human Context
To develop awareness of the nature of language and its role in human society
- A.1. Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of linguistic diversity and variability within and across societies.
Goal B: Relating Theories and Data
To develop knowledge of theories of language and how theories relate to data
- B.1. Students will describe how a linguistic theory would interpret relevant data, or how that data is problematic for the theory.
Goal C: Language Structure and Function
To develop skills in the analysis of linguistic data and to relate linguistic structures to the functions they perform
- C.1. Students will analyze data from language structures and relate it to language function

B.S. in Signed Language Interpreting Program Goals and Student Learning Objectives
Goal A: Linguistic and paralinguistic knowledge
To develop competency in determining Demands, Controls, and Supports inherent in interpreting situations.
- A.1 Students will demonstrate the ability to determine the paralinguistic and environmental demands of interpreted encounters.
Goal B: Cross Linguistic and cultural competency
To develop the ability to facilitate the interpreted interaction.
- B.1 Students will demonstrate the knowledge necessary to assess and apply appropriate linguistic registers
- B.2 Students will demonstrate the skills necessary to determine the intended outcome or goal of the interpreted encounter and employ appropriate linguistics and paralinguistics knowledge and skills.

To continue to develop competency in the use of American Sign Language
- C.1. Students will demonstrate intermediate level proficiency in an academic register of American Sign Language.
