The American Sign Language Minor
We do offer a Minor in American Sign Language (ASL). This minor has no direct advisement through the Signed Language Interpreting Program. Students must earn a C or above in each course to be eligible to take subsequent SIGN courses (effective on Jan 1, 2024). If you are interested in minoring in ASL, then please meet with your main academic advisor and they will add the minor to your degree plan.
Required Classes for the Minor:
- SIGN 2125-Introduction to Signed Language
- SIGN 2210-American Sign Language I
- SIGN 2220-American Sign Language II
- SIGN 310-American Sign Language III
- SIGN 320-American Sign Language IV
- SIGN 352-Language and Culture in the Deaf Community (Fall ONLY)
Suggested Classes for the Minor
- SIGN 2130: Fingerspelling and Numbers
*Note: Students can NOT major in both Signed Language Interpreting and minor in ASL
